This is to document my love of and obsession with fabric and quilts! The true, guilty story of buying "just a little bit more", of shopping at thrift stores for the extra large mens shirts to use in your next quilt..and yes..even eyeing up your best friends blouse wondering if she'd notice if you "borrowed" it and just how many 2 inch strips you could get out of it!

Talk about GORGEOUS!
Last night I acquired a beauty of a sewing machine. It is a Singer Treadle..not sure if it is a model 12 or 13 yet, and according to the serial number, she was made in 1882! Can you imagine??? After I clean her up and get a new belt on her, I will be sewing on a machine that is over 130 years old! I love my Janome 6600, but I can't imagine that in 130 years, she will still be working.
I love EVERYTHING about these old machines. If they could only talk, the stories I bet they could share! How many women bent over these machines, sewing clothes for their families, quilts to keep them warm, etc.
This one I got off of craigslist. She was asking $100 or best offer, and when I saw this beauty, I knew she was worth every penny. I offered her $90 and she took it. So, for $90, here is Pearl.....so named for all the mother of pearl in lay she has on her:
As much as I love the new technology, you have to admit, no NEW machine has the charm and looks like these old girls do.
Today is quilt league and I am still working on a quilt I can't share :/ Hopefully Pearl was enough eye candy for you today and I hope I have something I CAN share with you soon!!!

I saw your Treadleon post and had to take a look. Pearl is indeed a beauty. Enjoy adding your history to this lovely machine.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful sewing machine! Hope you and Pearl have many happy hours sewing together. I saw your post on Treadleon, too. Welcome to the group! :)
ReplyDeleteLovely sewing machine you have. I saw your post on Treadleon.
ReplyDeleteI too saw your post on Treadleon. You have a wonderful find. I just bought my first treadle last month. With the help of all the wonderful information online I have cleaned, oiled and polished my 97 year old Singer back to working shape. Now I just have to get better at my coordination. I know that it will come with practice. So far I have a pair of potholders all made on my treadle. Next a quilt!!! Good luck with your journey!
ReplyDeletePearl is gorgeous! I saw your post on HST when you were debating her. I wanted to tell you to RUN, don't walk and GET her. I am so glad you did.
ReplyDeleteMy treadle is only 100 years old. Just a baby next to Pearl and not nearly as pretty but I love Agnes.
