A finish and some news

First, I haven't had much time in the sewing room, but I did finish quilting Trees of Life by Edyta Sitar. I can't tell you how much I love this pattern! Still have to handsew the binding to the back so it looks crowded on the edges. Also, it was wiiiindy outside, so the side that looks bowed is only windblown! lol

The news is that my 17 yr old son, Joe, broke his ankle Thursday night. Not only did he break it, but he shredded the tendon in there, too. So, surgery is for this coming Thursday to put a plate/pins in the bone and to repair the tendon. Poor kid. Not a good thing at the end of your senior year! He also has his 18th birthday in 2 weeks. Well, it could always be worse. Please send your prayers for a speedy recovery!!

I have managed to also make a few test blocks, but of course, can't show them yet. I think we are just about wrapping those up so as soon as the magazine is out, I can finally share these gorgeous blocks!

Not sure how much sewing time I am going to have. Taking care of Patrick generally takes up a lot of my time, but now I have 2 kiddos to take care of everything for. Sigh...so sorry my son is hurting, but sooooo nice to have someone to take care of!!!

Righteousness and Accountability

Bet that got your attention, right? Well, it's not quite what you think. The righteousness is that I am listening to the Righteous Brothers while finally quilting my Trees of Life wallhanging:

Hoping to make some good progress in this one today. Would help if I had an idea as to how I want to quilt it, but no clue yet.

The accountability is for this:

This is 4 bags STUFFED with scraps for trimming down. Sigh. I promised myself I wouldn't let it get this out of hand. So..I need you guys to keep REMINDING me to get this taken care of!!

Have company coming for dinner tonight, but still hope to get some work done on both of these projects today. Wish me luck!!

Late Start

Getting a late start on this month's Christmas quiltalong, but that's okay because I spent the day so far sewing over at Shellie's!! We had a great time together as usual and Regina joined us later on to make the time even better. I worked on my Kitchen Sink quilt (which I now think is uglier than heck thanks to my choice of fabrics, but oh well).
For the Christmas project, I am pulling out this quilt top to work on.

This was made from swap blocks from the Cobbled Court Quilters. My plan was to applique things in the large red areas. Not sure what I am going to do yet, but I do know I am going to applique gold stars near each of the blocks that will have the swap participants names on them. So, here I go!

Well, got the gold stars all appliqued on and the names of the participants written on them before dinner. I will embroider the names on later, but at least I got them on! Not sure what comes next on here. I have a few ideas, but nothing definite. Hopefully will be working on this a little more tonight.

I was thinking that it over the years, I have joined a lot of blocks of the months, sew alongs, etc, but this is the Christmas quiltalong is the only one I have not only stuck with, but eagerly look forward to. I wonder why that is. I know that it does really motivate me. Take this quilt for example. I put it away a long time ago, I think because all I wanted to do with it was a LOT. So, I did nothing. Now, knowing I have these days, it doesn't scare me. I can chip away at it, a little each month.
So, thanks to Sue and Cathi for all you do for us with this!!!

Btw..have I told you lately what a great hub I have??? Every week he brings me home this:

Daisies and carnations are my faves and he spoils me with them weekly!!

Last update: I have decided NOT to do anything more to this quilt top. I am going to leave it as is and use the more open spots for some extra quilting. I tried a couple of different ideas, but they all seemed to take away from the beautiful blocks my friends made, so scrapped that idea. Yay...the best idea yet! lolol

Jeans quilt

Made a little more progress on my quilt made from old jeans. I really haven't had too much time in the sewing room lately and it felt good to even get this much done! I am all out of my old jeans now, so will have to put this away while I collect more of them to make this bigger!

The back:

I really love how this is turning out!!
Probably won't get any more sewing in until this weekend. Hopefully will have lots to show you then!!
