Christmas Quiltalong progress

Before I get into the Christmas quiltalong, I wanted to share a few pics of my youngest, Hannah, from her senior ball last night: Hannah and Anthony looked great, didn't they?? The bottom picture is Hannah and her best friend, my "extra" daughter, Sophia. Very bittersweet for me. I am 48, my oldest child of my 6 will be 31 this year and Hannah is my baby at 18. This will be my very last prom. I don't mind my age, but I HATE my kids growing up!!!! Now for the quiltalong. The next part in the mystery has been revealed and I have 6 of the blocks made. Now, back to stitching to finish up the other 18 blocks!!

This Saturday is the Christmas quiltalong...yay!!! No clue what I am going to work on, but I still can't wait! lol I know I will be working on the next part of the quiltalong mystery. Sue has thrown us a challenge....play with our units and see if we can guess what comes next. Here are some of the ideas I came up with: I was too pooped to do the math to see if the units would work into blocks like these, so I am sure I am not even close. It was fun to play with them, though! I can't wait to see what Sue has up her sleeve for us!!! Hop on over to Sue's blog to see what everyone else has come up with with their units!!! Do the hustle!

Shellie came over yesterday for a sew date and I had a GREAT time! We started off with a little sewing, then spent wayyyy to much time at a quilt store. Fortunately we spent more time than money there! Shellie got some background fabric for a quilt she is working on and I bought another book. Then we went out to lunch and stuffed ourselves. Then, back to sewing.

Here is Shellie working hard putting her units together. I was working on a graduation quilt that I had all cut out. I really hustled and managed to get the whole top together yesterday.

This is for Hannah's best friend, Sophia, who is like my third daughter. Now to get it quilted! Ohhhhh.....I do have something else to share. Here is a quilt that the Cobbled Court quilt circle made for one of our members when she has some surgery. We all made blocks, Cathy McG put them together into this gorgeous setting and I quilted it up and sent it along to Sandra. Didn't it turn out great?? Just love the border Cathy put on it. I am counting it as a finish since I quilted it. This was a project I worked on when I wasn't posting. I couldn't share as Sandra reads my blog. Hope she doesn't mind me stealing her pic off her blog! Lol

That is probably all the sewing for the weekend. Time to clean up this pigsty!

Happy Memorial Day!

Thanks to all the many service men and women who do what they do! My hub is a veteran of the Navy so I know what military life can be like. We are lucky to have these men and women protecting us! I finished up another ufo yesterday. It is a wallhanging that just needed the applique to be stitched down and the binding put on. I cheated with this one and added the backing BEFORE I machine appliqued it, so that did the quilting for me! Here it is..waiting for me to handstitch the binding down tonight:

I also weeded the vegie garden and got more carrots, green beans and cukes planted. Then it was back to the sewing room and I got the fabric cut up for a graduation gift for Hannah's best friend and also started piecing a backing for a quilt for my niece's wedding...in 3 weeks! Then it was time to hang with the kiddos while hub was at a golf tournament. Nice day! Today I am not sure what is in store. I need to get to the store to buy a birthday gift for my best friend and we have a picnic at 3. What happens in between there is anyone's guess! Hope you all are having a fabulous weekend!

Finally a Finish!!

Yay! I finished quilting my Chunky Churndash quilt today. The pattern is a Bonnie Hunter one. I had to overcome a few obstacles completing this one. First was myself. I just couldn't get motivated. When I finally did, problem #2 were my helpers:

I usually have to deal with one of the cats checking out my new quilts, but this time TWO of them claimed it..and I mean claimed it! They just would not leave this one alone. Finally, I was able to get them to move long enough for me to finish the quilt up and here it is:

Tonight I will handstitch the binding down and I can finally give this to my son, Tom....who has waited since Nov 2010 for this quilt!!
